Nike Flywire Technology in Olympics

The Olympics are the most well known competitions where athletic ability is compared head to head. Since the modern Olympics began in 1896 things have changed quite a bit. Athletes competed at their own expense in the beginning, but now compete for themselves and the country of their origin. Fitness companies are always looking for new and "innovative" solutions to boost performance, but they never try harder than at the Olympics. Now, not only are athletes sponsored nationally but many sport manufacturers support them as well. Here are just a few new pieces of technology the industry has created to boost recognition of their athletes and success of their countries.

Nike Flywire

Historically, track runners have usually crossed the finish line neck and neck, meaning every tenth of a second counts. The shoes runners wear, already great pieces of technology, are constantly being reworked to give the runner the best advantage available. From spikes to special arches, shoes are probably one of the most improved assets a runner has. Nike has developed a new technology based upon suspension bridges. The Flywire design uses small strands of suspension type material to hug the foot, reducing the need for over the top padding. They weigh 67 grams, or just a little over an ounce per shoe. The shoes are now of digital design and stitched by machine.

Nike Hyperdunk

The new Nike Hyperdunk Shoe is so popular nearly every player on every team will be wearing a pair. The kicks feature the same Flywire Technology as the track shoes to increase strength and reduce mass. The other feature that sets the Hyperdunk apart is Lunarlite foam, originally crafted for the Space Shuttle. The Lightweight foam is mixed with special rubber polymers to provide Cloud-like cushion with that extra bounce. Here is a viral video of Kobe Bryant wearing Hyperdunks to Jump over an Aston Martin.

Nike Aerographics Technology

This year the US basketball team will be sporting a new Nike Jersey. The jerseys are designed to be super lightweight and breathable. The shits design was created on a computer with perforated designs that will allow for breathing holes to keep athletes core temperatures down. The jerseys will also wick water away from the body in attempts at keeping athletes even cooler. The basketball teams jersey features an Olympic torch over the players midsection.

Speedo LZR

There have been several questions over the new suit created by Speedo. The Speedo LZR (pronounced laser) is a lightweight, water-repellent suit that hugs the swimmers body to reduce drag. The suit features several ultrasonically bonded panels in strategic locations to form the body to the perfect water cutting shape and reduce lap times.

adidas Lone Star

The most high-tech innovation this year will be the Adidas Lone star shoe. Created for US team runner, Jeremy Werner, Adidas professionals noticed an anomaly in the way his right foot hit the ground, and found a way to take advantage. The sole of the shoe is crafted from the newest strongest material ever created, Carbon Nanotubes. Did I forget to mention it is also stronger and lighter than carbon fiber? Adidas tops it off with special asymmetrical plastic spikes on the inside toe of the right shoe designed to push Werner around the corners.
